Our take: Ah Seah Teochew Porridge evokes a sense of nostalgia for some, with its simple, home-cooked style dishes.
We note that a Saturday lunch visit can be surprisingly queue-free, offering fast and fuss-free service.
Dishes like the rabbit fish ($15) and spicy sotong ($5) are mentioned as comfort food, though some diners find the sotong small and expensive.
The preserved mui cai with braised pork bits and spicy brinjal are also popular choices.
However, we also see consistent feedback regarding a decline in quality and variety compared to its past iteration.
Some dishes, such as the sesame chicken, are criticised for being too salty and using tough, frozen meat.
The braised pork is described as mediocre, and the stingray as having a slight stench.
While the otah is a crowd favourite, it doesn't always impress.
We think this spot is best for those seeking a quick, no-frills meal, particularly if you're in the area and can avoid peak hours.
It's a reliable option for a simple Teochew porridge fix, but perhaps not a destination for a standout culinary experience.

What customers say
Ah Seah Teochew Porridge evokes mixed feelings, with some customers appreciating its simple, comforting, home-cooked style dishes like rabbit fish and spicy sotong, noting fast and fuss-free service.
However, others find the food mediocre, citing issues like overly salty sesame chicken, tough frozen chicken, flavorless minced pork, and a slight stench in the stingray.
There's a recurring sentiment that the quality and variety have declined since its earlier days, with some dishes missing their familiar touch.

Visited Ah Seah Teochew Porridge for lunch on Saturday, surprisingly no queue and no wait time. A good luck rabbit fish $15 (no roe in sight), spicy sotong $5, preserved Mui Cai vege with braised pork…
Nostalgia is a painful lesson Extremely mediocre. None of the dishes stood out. Braised pork zhup was Five spice + soy + water Bar chor was just salty and flavorless Stingray had a slight stench Soto…
Missing the good old days at the coffeeshop. Their famous fish cake wasn’t available this time. The rest of the dishes were decent, though they seemed to be missing that familiar touch.
It is average. Sesame Chicken way too salty, use frozen chicken hence the meat is tougher. Cabbage and Okra is fine. Otah seems like crowd favourite but wasn't "wow". $9.80 for 1pax.
Happy that they reopened. Not so happy somethings changed. Less variety, seems to be more tasteful last time. None the less, happy they got a new home and happy to be able to eat here again.
