Editor’s Note

Last updated 30 May 2026

Our take: Central Hong Kong Café, a long-standing fixture in Vivocity, presents a mixed bag of experiences.

While some patrons praise its aesthetically pleasing decor compared to other HK-style cafes, there are reports of menu changes, with some popular items like Chinese sausages with rice and egg no longer available.

Quality seems to be a point of contention; some find the flavors and texture of dishes like the Stewed Drumstick Noodles and signature HK-style '车仔面' to have declined.

However, others are pleasantly surprised by the deliciousness of dishes like the Vegetarian Hor Fun ($9), noted for its strong wok hei and generous portion, and the Fried La Mian with seafood ($11.50).

The Wanton Soup ($9) also receives commendation for its fresh, large prawn-filled wantons.

We think the Seafood Fried Rice is a reliable choice, especially with a side of chili oil to enhance its smoky flavor.

While the atmosphere might be lacking due to its location next to a busy area, the food can feel homemade and the staff accommodating.

We'd recommend focusing on the Vegetarian Hor Fun or the Wanton Soup for a potentially satisfying meal.

Best for a casual, affordable meal if you're in the area, but manage expectations regarding traditional HK flavors for certain dishes.
