Cheng San Market & Cooked Food Centre offers a quintessential heartland hawker experience in Ang Mo Kio, serving the surrounding HDB estates.
We find it to be a lively spot, particularly in the mornings, where residents combine grocery shopping at the wet market with breakfast and coffee.
The cooked food centre provides a good variety of affordable local dishes, with the Teochew Porridge, featuring steamed fish, authentic Teochew fishcake, and fried anchovies, frequently highlighted as a favourite.
Other popular options include herbal soup, bak chor mee (which some note now includes fried wantons), and roast meat rice.
While many praise the affordability and community vibe, we note some feedback suggesting inconsistencies, such as a perceived drop in the standard of the Lor Mee, with its gravy becoming watery quickly.
However, the overall sentiment points to a reliable and beloved local food destination.
We think it's a solid choice for those seeking an authentic and affordable hawker meal with a strong neighbourhood feel.
Best for a casual, everyday meal, especially if you're in the area.
