Our take: Chong Boon Market & Food Centre offers a classic hawker experience in a mature estate, appealing to those who appreciate old-school vibes.
We note that several stalls draw significant crowds, with reports of long queues, particularly for popular noodle and char kway teow stalls.
While some dishes, like the red snapper fish soup, are generally well-received for their flavour, there are occasional comments about temperature or specific ingredient quality, such as the size of cockles in the char kway teow.
The coffee and kaya butter toast set has also received mixed feedback, with one reviewer noting an unwanted durian scent transfer.
Despite these minor inconsistencies, the centre provides a range of affordable options.
We think it's a solid choice for a casual meal, especially if you're in the Ang Mo Kio area and don't mind a wait.
Best for those seeking an authentic local food centre experience, but manage expectations for peak hour crowds.

What customers say
Chong Boon Market & Food Centre is a popular, often crowded hawker centre in Ang Mo Kio, known for its old-school charm and a variety of local dishes.
While some stalls like the red snapper fish soup and a famous noodle store receive positive remarks despite long queues, others like the CKT stall and mee siam are considered average.
A notable concern was kaya butter toast absorbing durian smell due to improper storage.
