Our take: Maruhachi Donburi & Curry consistently delivers restaurant-quality Japanese fare from a hawker stall setting, a point frequently highlighted by diners.
The signature Pork Katsu Curry, in particular, receives high praise for its crispy exterior and tender, juicy pork, with some comparing it favorably to established Japanese restaurants.
The curry itself is noted as 'on point,' and the Mentai Katsu Curry is also a popular choice, with the mentai blending surprisingly well with the curry.
While the katsu and curry are strong, we note some mixed feedback on other items.
The chicken katsu has been described as tough and bland by some, and the pork sausage as not worth its $3 price tag.
There's also a recurring comment about the rice quality, with some finding it to be a mix of Japanese and regular rice, impacting the overall texture.
Despite these minor points, the overall consensus points to a satisfying and affordable meal.
We'd recommend focusing on the katsu dishes for the best experience.
Verdict: A reliable spot for excellent katsu, best for those seeking restaurant-quality Japanese food in a casual setting.

I did enjoy the oyako don, though I find the chicken to be a little plain. But overall, the meal is quite filling. Perhaps next time i’ll try one of the katsu dishes!
