Our take: Shixiangge is a popular spot for hand-pulled noodles, particularly their knife-shaved noodles (dao xiao mian) which many reviewers prefer over the la mian.

The Beef Bang Bang Mian (dry version) is a standout, praised for its rich, savoury flavour, thick chewy noodles, and tender beef slices.

The dry chilli accompanying it adds a notable kick without overpowering the dish.

Portions are consistently described as generous.

While the food quality is generally high, we note that prices, such as the $7 noodles and $5.50 meat bao, are considered steep for a coffee shop setting, making it less ideal for a daily meal.

The dining environment can also be hot and noisy, located next to a bus bay.

Ordering is via a self-service kiosk, which might require some getting used to, and the stall only accepts cash or CDC vouchers.

We think it's a solid choice for a satisfying noodle fix, but be prepared for the price point and the casual, potentially warm, setting.

Verdict: Worth a visit for the noodles, especially the Beef Bang Bang Mian, but bring cash and manage expectations for the ambiance.

What customers say

Shixiangge generally receives positive feedback for its flavorful and generous noodle portions, particularly the hand-shaved noodles (刀削面) and beef bang bang mian, with many praising the tender beef and delicious dumplings.

While the food quality is often highlighted, some customers find the prices steep for a hawker setting, making it less ideal for daily meals.

Operational aspects like the self-service kiosk and cash-only payment can be slightly inconvenient, and the coffee shop environment can be hot and noisy.
