Editor’s Note

Last updated 29 May 2026

Our take: Tanglin Halt Ru Yi Yuan Vegetarian is known for its Vegetarian Bee Hoon, which many describe as having a distinct wok hei.

We note that the bee hoon is often praised for being less oily and having a lighter, more subtle flavour compared to other vegetarian stalls.

The ingredients are also highlighted as being unique.

However, there are recurring comments about a burnt smell in the bee hoon, which some customers found off-putting and not true wok hei.

Portions are considered by some to be on the smaller side for the price, with a large plate costing $5.50.

Expect queues, particularly during breakfast hours and around the 1st and 15th of lunar months.

We'd recommend visiting early on a weekday to avoid the longest waits.

It's a solid option for a quick, light vegetarian breakfast, provided you're prepared for potential inconsistencies in the wok hei and the queue.

What customers say

Tanglin Halt Ru Yi Yuan Vegetarian garners mixed reactions, primarily for its vegetarian bee hoon.

While many praise its unique ingredients, subtle flavors, and 'wok hei', a significant number of customers report a distinct burnt smell in their bee hoon and long beans, which they distinguish from 'wok hei'.

Portions are generally considered small for the price, with some finding the large plate insufficient.

Long queues are common, especially during peak hours and lunar month beginnings, and there are mentions of inconsistent staff attitude.

You know it's nice when the Q is so long. Avoid the 1st and 1th of lunar months. The beehoon has nice wok hei and is a crowd favourite. Just need to be patient and queue 😂👍🏻

Vegetarian Bee hoon is light with subtle flavours and not as oily as other versions out there. It is a little pricey though with $5.50 for the large version and $1 for a spring roll. Store is open at…

Bee hoon had a very burnt smell. This is not wok hei smell. Long beans covered with black burnt bits. Disappointing. Did not help that the stall holder had a bad attitude.
