Editor’s Note

Last updated 29 May 2026

Our take on Xiang Ji Roasted suggests a mixed bag of experiences, particularly concerning portion sizes and consistency.

While some patrons praise the tenderness of the roasted duck and the sweetness of the char siew, others find the portions small and the prices high for what's offered.

The $4.50 Roasted Duck Rice is noted for being boneless, but not necessarily the best in the area.

There are also recurring comments about inconsistent service, with one staff member reportedly ignoring specific order requests, leading to dissatisfaction with meat-to-bone ratios and overall portioning.

We think the quality of the char siew is particularly contentious, with some describing it as lean and sweet, while others report it as thinly sliced and excessively fatty.

The roasted pork (sao rou) also receives criticism for being cut too small.

Given the variability in food quality and service, we'd recommend approaching Xiang Ji Roasted with tempered expectations.

It might be a hit or miss, depending on the day and who is serving.

Best for a quick, no-frills meal if you're already in the area and willing to risk inconsistent portions.

What customers say

Xiang Ji Roasted receives mixed feedback, with some customers praising the tender duck and sweet char siew, along with the belachan chili.

However, significant concerns are raised about portion sizes being too small, especially for the price, and the char siew often being excessively fatty or thinly sliced.

Customer service is inconsistent, with specific complaints about an 'aunty' at the counter ignoring order specifications and providing less meat.

I ordered 1 whole roasted duck and 500g char siew. The duck was tender and fresh. The char siew was sweet and lean. Their berlachan chilli sound tasted nice and good! Price was reasonably acceptable.…

Portion so small! Slices of pork so thin! Very pricey for so little. Not recommended.

The char siew was thinly sliced and it's 90% fats. Sao rou was chopped smaller than my pinky. Never had such pathetic roast meat meal for a long time. What happened to the popular Xiang Ji?
