Editor’s Note

Last updated 29 May 2026

Our take: Xiao Guan Zi appears to be a noodle spot with a specific regional focus, likely catering to the NTU student population given its location.

We've seen mentions of both hot and cold noodle dishes, with the beef noodles with mushroom soup being highlighted, though some found it a bit salty.

Portions have reportedly decreased over time.

The primary concern we've noted revolves around service, with multiple accounts describing a particular waitress as rude and unhelpful.

There's also a concerning report about torn currency being given as change and refused exchange.

While one reviewer called it a 'life changing experience' at NTU, the negative service feedback is significant.

We'd recommend approaching with caution, especially if you value friendly service.

It might be a convenient option if you're already on campus and in need of a quick noodle fix, but it's not a destination we'd go out of our way for.

What customers say

Xiao Guan Zi receives mixed reviews, with some customers praising its noodle dishes, particularly the beef noodles, and considering it a must-try at NTU.

However, significant concerns have been raised regarding declining portion sizes and, more critically, the unprofessional and rude behavior of a specific waitress.

There are also reports of issues with receiving torn cash notes as change, which staff refused to rectify.

Nice noodle dishes from a part of China that is near North Korea. Ordering is easier if your Mandarin is better though. Beef noodles with mushroom soup: 7/10. A bit salty, but the portion is decent.
